Whatever happened to US manufacturing? Gibson, Remington are bankrupt, Harley-Davidson is dying.

And now the American classic Colt is bought out by a Czech company...They should rename it Czolt.

"PRAGUE -- Czech firearms company Ceska Zbrojovka has signed a deal to acquire Colt, the American gun maker that helped develop revolvers in the 19th century and has since supplied the armed forces in the U.S. and other countries.

Ceska Zbrojovka Group SE said Friday that it has purchased all the shares in Colt Holding Company LLC, the parent company of Colt’s Manufacturing Company LLC and its Canadian subsidiary, Colt Canada Corp.

The deal is worth $220 million and 1,098,620 newly issued shares in Ceska Zbrojovk and is subject to approval by regulators. The Czech company said it expected the transaction to be completed in the second quarter of 2021."

Czechoslovakia has a long history of weapons manufacture and those weapons have generally had a good reputation.

Are gun manufacturers leaving the US because it is economical to do so or are they instead anticipating an existential threat from the US government?

Looks like it is a positive news for gun lovers.

"Colt was a mainstay in American guns for years, but they have not been producing guns that are as high quality for a while now. Basically the product is poor compared to what is expected from colts of the past, but the price hasn’t changed to match the new (worse) quality. A similar thing happened with Remington."

"The US military was less inclined to favor homegrown suppliers, and FN in Belgium had invested a lot of money in itself. Colt was on the verge of death before they lucked into the AR-15 patents, but when that ran out FN could beat them on price and quality. If colt had re-invested its profits into modernization and R&D for new products and product improvements, they'd still be around. After they lost the M-4 contract they basically ceased to exist, they just outsourced to other companies."
