Recomendation for a Prop Firm

Discussion in 'Prop Firms' started by Rum Runner, Mar 3, 2014.

  1. Hello,

For those that have traded prop before, could you tell me whether a firm would be interested in someone like me? Or would I be required stay with retail for this?

I have a systematic strategy that trades ETFs and holds them for 2-6 weeks. I've been trading it in my IRA, but would like to generate monthly income with it. I'm looking to initially receive buying power in the neighborhood of 350k.

Here is the trick. Although I am an experienced trader/developer, I don't have a lengthy (live) track record with this particular strategy. I can of course provide enough deposit to cover what the max historic draw down was. If it made a difference, I could provide whatever other data they'd need about the strategy.

Am I asking too much, or are there prop firms out there that may be a fit?

    Thank you for your time.

  2. I should also say that I need to be able to trade remotely.

You will get ZERO interest. Here is my recco. Open an account at IB and trade single stocks futures. You get 5 to 1 overnight I believe and you can hold these for 2 to 6 weeks.

  4. Thanks for the response. Out of curiosity, what is the reason a prop firm would not be interested? Not enough commission income? Not long enough track record with that strategy? Or something else?

  5. Most prop firms cater to remote daytraders and therefore your strategy to hold for several weeks won't apply.
