I have searched but could hardly find any mention of RealTick API that was not 6-7 years old. Does anyone use RealTick API nowadays? What are your opinions?
While RealTick isn't specifically mentioned, there's another thread started last month that is probably relevant. http://www.elitetrader.com/et/index...hread-on-real-time-data-api-solutions.299375/ There's a number of companies that offer data under the name "RealTick", so I'm not sure which you're referring to. Of all the ones I've come across calling themselves "RealTick", the combination of price+what you get was a worse value proposition (for me) than IQFeed (which is basically my benchmark).
None of those. I'm looking for opinions on this: https://emsportal.ezesoft.com/download.aspx?sidenav=rtapi
Right so that particular RealTick is quite a bit more expensive than IQFeed. I didn't even bother contacting sales to get a price on API access, but API access requires their "RealTick Pro" subscription, which is $300/mo (plus exchange fees). Compare this to IQFeed which is $75/mo (plus exchange fees) for a 500 symbol limit -- I didn't make a note of the symbol limit for RealTick, so idk if they didn't publish it or if I just didn't track it.
I trialed RealTick when I was starting out. Its API docs are absolute garbage. They had come out with a new version but only had docs for the old version, which was a completely different offering. For a program that's so damn expensive on a per-month basis you'd expect actual working documentation. I gave up on it before my trial even ran out.
All right, maybe I did the wrong decision then. I pay 400 for the API access. I don't care too much about the documentation, all functions are documented in the code and they supplied quite a lot of sample programs, pretty much enough to understand and re-use. So far I didn't use it for trading. Is someone interested perhaps in a quality comparison with other platforms? I'm following currently the S&P500 emini.
