This is more of a meta/strategy/why thread rather than pure "sell vertical spreads and ye'll be rich" tactics, though I'm a veteran on those too. Veteran as in can they kill you: definitely, and not much beyond that. Short presentation for those who don't know me already: I live in the 2'nd most important city (from a $$$ point of view, although at 10x less population than the capital we're almost equalling them in terms of $$$ of an Estern European country. I never considered moving out of here because why the fuck? City is 2000 years old and guys who manage to live here manage to live anywhere, so why go elsewhere NOT TO BE ABLE to do WHAT I'M NOT ABLE TO DO HERE in the first place? My strategy for digging myself out of the shithole that's humanity today is very simple: change the way of humanity. You don't have to be quants like me (upcoming PhD in mathematics, graduated the most mathematical field available at the Universities in the city where I was admitted 1'st, passed on pure physics because I only got admitted 2'nd there ) to understand that steerig humanity towards more years of living in better conditions cost a helluva lot of energy. Energy we don't have today, even if you'd ransack and plunder all the rich guys of the world, sorry to say to the communists simple minded. But it can be produced, given we allocate the proper resources to it. Anyways, it's obvious if someone were capable of doing this, I wouldn't be living in the shithole that's today's world. So outside of "democratic" phantasies like voting for one or the other, there's the autocratic way of building me a fortune, making sure it's properly guarded by the institutions in place be them "democratic" or not, then use it to change the world according to my view. I'll build my way up by taking a bite of the $1 quadrillion that's the derivatives market. Those of you who are interested can get an early preview on what that'll look like in 1-2 months. Free on GitHub, though you should not just expect but understand energy's not free, otherwise we wouldn't be here.
By the way, I live within 500 meters of https://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bastionul_Croitorilor_din_Cluj-Napoca , one of the few middle age fortifications that made it till today. Best location to live? An American would say "within drunken staggering distance from the best bars in town" and I would not disagree with that But "croitori" translates to "tailors" in English. And even during communist times, the shops here were a place where you could still get something tailored to your needs I'm saying noting more.
I admire his courage and dedication to his homeland. @Aquarians is sharing his strategy of how to dig himself out of his hole instead of migrating to a more $ friendly country. In doing so, he hopes he can help himself and his country/city to get rich. Me, I am not that brave, I voted with my feet, moved to CA looking for gold decades ago, just like our ancestors moving out of Africa, and never looked back.
Actually I'm contemplating an offer to move to CA too, temporarily. Initially it was for 1 month, which would have been no problem but looks they kinda wish for 6 months. I'd be doubling my salary over the period I'm there, so in 6 months I'd do a whole year here. After I'm getting back, I'd be really considering quitting and working a full year on my stuff based on those 6 months there. The guy who's pressing me into this, manager at a different company than I currently work for, is a former colleague from the university. He's pitching to me the opportunities one might get in Santa Clara just by talking to the right people while I'd be there. Actually we would be there, if I go then he'll be coming too. Not the entire period, but several times during the period given that he'd now have a place to stay and a backup to do "random walks on main street" there. Otherwise said, I'd be going there for my business and the contract I'm working on during that time is just the mercenary work I need to do to pay for my ambitions. I've got an idea to turn the niche side project I'm currently working on into a multi-million user, billion dollar business. No idea what the guy's business idea is, actually I do a little but "no comment on that". Sure as funk, nothing's gonna develop from both our ideas if we continue to rot with the imbeciles here. Not that thare isn't money in imbeciles, but you gotta raise way above that to collect them.
I get that you're black? Or "African-American"? (Not sure what the proper new term is, just like Javascript frontends, they keep changing the proper term for describing the same old reality ) I got one (and only one) colleague at my current company that's black. And Romanian I mean like, proper Romanian, born here and speaking with a native Transylvanian accent. A Hungarian boss I used to work with told me about the "black Hungarian jew" he once met, and I thought it's a myth and he's only saying that to appear interesting. The chances of all those 3 improbable occurrences occurring at the same time are negligible ... but I remembered the story and took the courage to ask our guy an inconvenient question: is he jew? "Disappointingly" he's Christian, so not much for me to impress with on sailor stories Otherwise he's one of the smartest and involved guys in the company, but like me too low ranking for any of that to make an impact even for himself, let alone for the company (who actually needs it badly, but keeps hiring layers of outside managers instead of promoting veterans from their own ranks).
