Yes we did. Some are truly blessed with the gift and he was one. There's about 5 videos I could post here.... but I remember one time when I was kid... Wikipedia says Glen Campbell was a session guitarist before he had his hit songs. Said he couldn't read music but had a really good ear. He amazed quite a few players back in his time.
Two other underappreciated (IMO) musicians are Roy Clark and Jerry Reed (RIP). They were/are super players, but since they had some clownish TV and movie roles most probably don't realize it. Even the great Chet Atkins said Jerry Reed was a better player than him.
