I'm a client of another brokerage, but since I can't disable PTPs stocks trading there, as I'm affected by the 10% tax on it (I'm a foreigner), I read that here you can disable trading publically traded partnerships stocks in InteractiveBrokers and there is an updated list of them on it, but you said "The lists are shown on a best-efforts basis for convenience only. We do not guarantee the accuracy or timeliness of the information"..

My question is: If I disable trading PTPs, then I bought a stock* that was not included on that list but it was actually a PTP security, if I contacted IBKR, will my action be reversed or will I be refunded ?
    * I'm a day trader, I buy and short alot of stocks everyday

The list seems to be pretty good, I used it to exclude them and so far it's reliable. I doubt IB would reimburse you. Would be great if they had a PTP flag in the API though.

  3. I doubt IB would refund or reverse under these circumstances. They are providing this list as a tool but it's really up to you to do the due diligence and determine if a particular stock is a PTP. Also, a lot of the PTP get exemptions quarterly and won't be subject to the tax. Buyer beware in this case. I stay away from anything that could possibly be considered a partnership.
