Question about IB (since they won't reply to my emails)

Discussion in 'Interactive Brokers' started by IronFist, Mar 28, 2008.

  1. Say I open an account with $10k or whatever their minimum is. Does this allow me to trade all instruments through them (ie. stocks one day, futures the next, Forex at night, etc.?) or are there different types of accounts for the different instruments there?

If that's how it works, that would be very convenient for me.

    Thanks.

IB lets you trade everything from one account.

IB has, what they call, a Universal Account in which all funds from trading different products are aggregated together.

Anything they list on their webpage that you are legally allowed to trade (I think US residents can't trade certain non-US equities?) can be traded from the one account. Just make sure you have enabled the proper data permissions for those products.

  4. Thanks.

I read in the reviews section here that they don't have the best customer service. That might explain why they never replied to my emails.

  5. customer service is terrible- if u have any questions ask them in this forum instead.

they are an excellent platform when it comes to data and execution tho, ive had no problems.

  6. Customer service is a problem at IB, but if you are a knowledgeable trader, then IB's benefits will outweigh the customer service problem.

I don't think the customer service is all that bad. But if you do call, you will be on hold a while.

Open your account with $10k or more and you'll get paid interest. Not much but better than nothing.
