Quercetin

This is such an interesting supplement that I thought it deserves its own thread. Quercetin is a flavonoid and can be found in food, mostly in fruits.

There is evidence that it can treat COVID-19 in 2 different ways. The most obvious is acting as an ionophore for Zinc and helping it to get through the cell membrane where Zing can block the virus from multiplying. But even without Zinc it could work, a new study has just started in Montreal:

    https://www.mcgilltribune.com/sci-tech/montreal-researchers-propose-a-treatment-for-covid-19-170320/

"....quercetin, which some research suggests can protect against the Ebola and Zika viruses, may be able to treat the coronavirus. Working with Chinese health officials, they will supervise clinical trials for testing the drug on patients in China. They will use the drug produced by the Swiss company Quercegen Pharmaceuticals, which, according to Chrétien, produces the purest available quercetin. The trials will last around four months.

Present in many fruits, vegetables, seeds, leaves, and grains, quercetin is a compound that originates from flavonoid plants. It is non-toxic for humans and can be purchased over the counter as a dietary supplement. "

Slightly related so I thought I would share it here:

In a study trying to figure out the ionophore effectiveness of EGCG, Quercetin and CQ, they found that Quercetin doubled, EGCG quadruplied and CQ increased 7 times the ability of Zinc crossing the cell membrane.

So it seems that drinking green tea (full of EGCG) maybe more effective than taking Q.

Green Tea contains Quercetin as well. A Q double wammy.... think I’ll go brew a cup. It’s good iced too.

  3. For what it's worth, I'm ahead of you guys. I drink almost 2 liters of green tea a day, and have done so for years now. (I'm already on my 4th cup, and it's not even 10 AM.)

    Jittery?

I can’t drink it late at night, worse than coffee.

  5. I’m usually done by about noon or 1 PM. Green tea has less caffeine than black tea.

That’s what I’ve read, here in the south iced tea is a staple but that doesn’t seem to bother me. Iced green tea is delicious, but some reason it keeps me up ???

  7. That’s interesting. Can’t imagine why.

With all the attention Zinc is getting now, one of these micro-brew operations with a national distribution footprint should come out Monday with a Zinc-Infused Lager.

They can call it whatever... "Pekelo's Anti-Corona Pale Ale"... just as long as they include the word "Corona" on the label.

See Inbev will surely sue citing some obscure copyright law or something that says as it applies to bottles of beer, they certainly own the rights to that word. And that's exactly what you want, they played right into your hand as the major wire services will pick up on the whole stupid thing in their soft/fun news departments and sales of Pek-Ale will go through the roof as everyone will want to imbibe some Zinc-infused beer.

Get wasted and feel good about yourself.
"Hey...its got Zinc in it... hand me one more please... I don't want that effing flu."

Apparently with green tea, the water temp. and seeping times are important. So the water temperature should be just below boiling and no more than 3 minutes seeping, otherwise the tea is going to be too bitter. But the good news is:

Buy it in pill form. The important part is EGCG:

They even advertise it as jitter-free energy...

I actually like the flavor of green tea. Just can’t drink it in the evening. But pills make it easy, I’ll order them this weekend, thanks.
