Weekly options exist for 8 days. They introduce them on Thursdays and expire on Fridays. Weekly's will not be listed if they would expire on a third Friday of the month. Any specific option you are inquiring about?
TheTradeXchange: It is unclear why you would make that comment. Typically weeklies are available and traded for up to about 45 days (the coming Friday, the next Friday, etc for about 45 days). (I think you are correct on the day that "new" weeklies are introduced, but those would typically be expiring 4-5 weeks out.) Correct me if I am wrong!
OK ...... I wasn't sure if it was the 3rd Saturday or Friday. When the weeklies first came out it was 8 days - now it's over one month.
Ah! Now I understand! My response only addressed the Expiration Date of the option (in the OPRA code), not when it is "settled", which may be AM (for some monthlies such as RUT and SPX) or PM for most others. --- It seems that the older reference to "Saturday after 3rd Friday" expired on February this year!
Correct, all equity and index options now expire on Fridays except EOM and quarterly options. Also, VIX is on Wednesday.
