Putin touts downfall of US as a global leader: ‘It’s almost done’ Putin used his annual public address to celebrate America's fading global influence under the Trump administration. In his annual public address before the nation, Russian President Vladimir Putin proclaimed that America’s global influence has come to end — a development he attributed in large part to Trump’s presidency. Speaking about the position of the U.S. on the global stage, Putin celebrated the waning influence of what he described as America’s “monopoly” on power, saying it would give Russia the ability to exert more influence in the world. “Empires often think they can make some little mistakes. Because they’re so powerful,” Putin said, according to the Financial Times. ”But when the number of these mistakes keeps growing, it reaches a level they cannot sustain.” He admonished the U.S. for having a “sense of impunity,” saying, “This is the result of the monopoly from a unipolar world.” “Luckily this monopoly is disappearing,” he added. “It’s almost done.” And Russia’s time has come, he said, claiming that America’s downfall meant that Russia had an opportunity to establish itself as a major player on the global stage. As the Financial Times described, “Putin continually returned to the idea that US hegemony was the cause of many global ills — but that its twilight offered opportunities for Russia and its friends.” Putin also noted that since Trump took office, punitive actions in response to Russian aggression in Ukraine and Syria had lessened in severity and were no longer having the impact they once did. He hit back at media reports describing his relationship with Trump as poor, noting that Trump listens to what he says, and that he wants a better relationship with Russia. While Putin’s remarks were clearly designed to bolster Russia’s national image, much of what he said is, unfortunately, true. Under Trump’s leadership, global opinions of the U.S. have soured and ratings of America have plummeted around the world. Within a year of Trump taking office, global approval of U.S. leadership had already plunged 18 points, with more people approving of China’s leadership than America’s. It’s not hard to see why, either. Trump has consistently failed to stand up for American values, choosing instead to take positions that are more in line with dictatorships and rogue nations than democracies. At the same time, he has made a habit of cozying up to actual dictators like Putin, Kim Jong Un, and most recently, the brutally oppressive Saudi royal family. No one could happier about all of this Putin, and it’s never been clearer than it is now. Published with permission of The American Independent.
140 million country with a lot of poverty and dissatisfaction, yeah, I don't think so. Of course the whole speech was one big "hurraa" to get Russians excited and forget about the real problems, just like in any other country.
That entire speech goes against everything the liberal media has been forcing upon the public since Trump was elected. That speech will be buried by the MSM as it doesn’t fit the agenda. Nothing to see here. It never happened.
Wow, you watched the entire speech by a notorious thug liar and you are upset that everyone else wont pay attention to his BS
Two things can be happening at once. There is no doubt Russia is in a much better position with Trump rather than Obama. He’s right about Syria and Ukraine. Also, Europe is less stable and Asia is actively pushing back as well.
I supposed the left thinks the downfall began under Trump. Putin is not wrong about this. Our institutions are rotting from the core because they have become party like. Our press has become a mouth for the party. Not very different from the party and Pravda where Putin came from. Instead of the cronies running the party we have the cronies running the business which own the politicians in both major parties. Its a very sad situation. Most of our drones don't even realize they are working for the people they think they are working against.
Wasn't Obama's main goal the dismantling of America. He was supposed to be the guy who was going to manage the decline. Remember when he first came to office, he did a worldwide tour where he trashed America at every turn. Now we have Putin saying that America is done, and the democrats have renewed their love affair with him,
With Obama there was a sense of stability, power was often obtained through things NOT said, unlike now where Trump is almost like a little girl chirping all the time. Trump does not understand that silence can be powerful, seems like his daddy never explained this concept to him. Many countries don't take the US seriously now and vast majority have zero trust because the opinions change hourly. Trump's play of "maybe I'll honor the agreement, maybe I won't" will just alienate all because now all agreements are meaningless. It's kind of sad to see Trump gamble away power credits gained over multiple decades in just a few years. Although with Ukraine, this whole situation was engineered by Russia and it's just a case of a big aggressive neighbour using weakness to gain more power.
