i was looking at multiple timeframes and noticed that one second timeframe often doesnt match the tape roll. i see blocks of highlighted buy orders rolling through on time and sales then a wall of buy orders on order book. but the chart is falling selling off massively at the same time. and i see the opposite also. time and sales massive blocks of highlited red but chart is spiking on one second chart. can anyone explain what is going on there? what is the mechanics behind this. (not lag. i have very low ping ethernet cable and get under 10 ping in most games when gaming)
Your lag has nothing to do with it. There could be lag introduced by the platform. They also have to process the data and publish it. Also, most platforms try to conflate data to save on bandwidth. Nothing is truly real time.
Would tick by tick chart be more in sync with the tape then? I havent looked at that yet I only looked at webull Havent checked on tos yet So that is system lag not trader actions Simplemelike can you elaborate on spoofing, How would that work? Were talkjng about time and sales not orderbook spoofing. the order book is useless now its constant spoofing
I would say that if you rely on level2 and TnS, you should try something like Lightspeed or Sterling or DAS.
It all depends, there are levels of awareness, but for retail mostly on your trading platform and whether you use a 3rd party charting package. For a deeper understanding of market data, research Consolidated Tape Association and market 'plumbing' of CTS, CQS, ATSs, ECNs and SIP. Read 'Flash Boys' by Lewis, 'Dark Pools' by Patterson, snoop through NANEX archives will get one most of the way there. Will still be a ~decade behind. To get more up-to-date would be to read through proposed rule changes submitted to the SEC and obscure research papers. SIP/Specs Current capacity messages per 100 milliseconds of 950,000 for the quote feed and 350,000 for the trade feed. Capacity above peak with capacity-to-peak ratio of 3.7:1 for the quote feed and 4.1:1 for the trade feed Current median latency under 17 microseconds for quotes (CQS) and under 18 microseconds for trades (CTS)
As you mentioned, spoofing is something completely different. That SML guy has no clue what he's talking about.
