Q Obama: GOP is the 'only major party in advanced world' to deny climate change http://www.theguardian.com/environm...d-press-conference-climate-change-republicans President predicts Republicans’ continued insistence that climate change is not real is a long-term political loser while touting US as ‘key leader’ in Paris talks Barack Obama chided Republicans on Friday for standing apart from every other rightwing party in the developed world by denying the science of climate change. In a confident defence of the Paris climate deal agreed by nearly 200 nations last weekend, Obama predicted that Republican opposition to the accord and the denial of climate change itself will not be sustainable. “The American Republican party is the only major party that I can think of in the advanced world that effectively denies climate change,” the president said. “It’s an outlier. “Many of the key signatories of this deal, the architects of this deal, come from centre-right governments. Even the far-right parties in many of these countries, they may not like immigrants for example, but they admit, ‘Yeah the science tells us we’ve got to do something about climate change.’” ... UQ
I think people care about HFGW, but it is too abstract for them and they are afraid of being fleeced by either party. People rarely react to things until the pain hits home. That is why China is so willing to solve the problem at the moment. It is literally in their face. The republicans won't lose the White House on denial of HFGW this time around.
pretty simple. If you fear global warming vote democrat If you think it is a crock of shit vote republican nothing could be more simple now the 2016 election rides on nothing more than the 2016 weather report Just like trading November beans
" http://www.theguardian.com/environm...d-press-conference-climate-change-republicans Obama has set the US a target of cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 26-28% by 2025, based on 2005 levels. This will primarily be achieved by empowering the Environmental Protection Agency to curb carbon pollution from power plants, although 24 states have banded together to sue the regulator in an attempt to overturn the plan. Republicans claim the regulations will hurt American jobs and raise power bills. " The Government's stimulation and investment will create not only many many more new jobs - both knowledge based or else, but also a lot of new ideas/inventions/products. These new high-tech green products would be initially produced locally in order to meet not only the local demand in the US, but later also the world market. This new world-wide demand of green products will be a huge demand that has never existed before. The tax and national income, including export shipments, produced by these new generation of green businesses and green jobs would be the best hope for reducing national deficits. This golden and historic opportunity, initially driven by domestic demand as required by new green regulations, can now be met because the US Do have the human capital, knowledge base, vitality, creativity, capability, ... Many believers of Creator understand very well they should be the Creator's carers/ caretakers of this planet, not destroyers. Accordingly, This time could be a huge win, and historic!
for some reason, I have always come up with better ideas when I was trying to make more money than the ideas I came up with just so I wouldn't get nailed by the government. The VW emmission scam is just the first of many trying to outsmart an ever increasing out of capitalistic touch government. Oh well, like you say, it makes for activity. Now you need lawyers and judges and court cases and congressional hearings to decide who is complying and who is avoiding the obscure laws that are written and revised almost daily. But I will agree with you, do what is right for the earth and everything else will take care of itself.
Q How Much Will the Clean Power Plan Cost? http://www.ucsusa.org/global-warmin...-much-will-clean-power-plan-cost#.VkpXNN-rTBI FACT: The benefits of the EPA’s Clean Power Plan far outweigh the costs UPDATE (August 5, 2015): This page has been updated to reflect the projected benefits and costs of the final Clean Power Plan. On August 3, 2015, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finalized new rules, or standards, that set the first-ever national limits on carbon pollution from existing power plants, the largest source of U.S. global warming emissions. These standards, known as the Clean Power Plan, establish state-level targets that collectively would cut national electricity sector CO2 emissions 32 percent below 2005 levels by 2030. An in-depth analysis of the final rule by the EPA found that the combined climate and health benefits of the Clean Power Plan will far outweigh the costs of implementing it. and that it will deliver billions of dollars in net benefits each year, estimated at $26 billion to $45 billion in 2030. Climate benefits worth billions The Clean Power Plan will set the first-ever national limits on carbon pollution from power plants. The EPA estimates the Clean Power Plan will cut carbon by millions of tons per year, and generate climate benefits worth billions of dollars, reaching $20 billion in 2030. ... Billions in health benefits While reducing CO2 emissions is the primary goal of the Clean Power Plan, the EPA also expects the rule to deliver billions of dollars in health benefits per year by reducing exposure to fine particulates and ozone pollution. The health benefits range from $12 billion to $34 billion in 2030. ... Minimal upfront costs, with lower electricity bills to follow The EPA estimates that the annual costs of complying with the Clean Power Plan will be substantially lower than the associated climate and health benefits of the proposal. Annual cost estimates for complying with the Clean Power Plan range from $1.4 billion to $2.5 billion in 2020, to $5.1 billion to $8.4 billion in 2030. These annual cost estimates factor in both the costs of investments in transitioning to lower-carbon electricity options and the savings that result from investments in energy efficiency. ... Cost-effective solutions to cut carbon Many states are already using renewable energy and energy efficiency to cost-effectively reduce carbon emissions. Photo: germanborillo/Flickr To meet Clean Power Plan emissions reduction targets, states will have the flexibility to choose from a variety of zero- or low-carbon energy solutions, including investing in renewable energy; efficiency improvements at individual fossil fuel plants; energy efficiency in homes, businesses, or factories; nuclear power; shifting generation from coal to natural gas; and improving efficiency at power plants. They can also collaborate with other states to find the lowest cost options to cut carbon emissions, including through emissions trading programs. ... which is why many believers would want 90 percent of the the multi billions spent on this non issue.... to be spent cleaning up the oceans and protecting our acquifers or something useful. When science can show us we are warming outside of natural variation, that warming is dangerous and that man made co2 is causing it... we should act. So far there is no science showing any of the above.
The EPA’s Clean Power Plan will raise the average yearly electric cost for a family in my state of North Carolina by $434 per year. All of this is to tackle a non-existent AGW problem while INCREASING hard particle pollution by replacing existing power plant hard-particle scrubbers with CO2 scrubbers. Tell me again how this is benefiting my family. Our state is one of many that does not plan to comply and the Feds will have to take it to court. The EPA’s Clean Power Plan is a disaster that will cause further pollution.
