In the trading universe there are many different paths to success. Some of these paths, while it might be the same trail and set of circumstances, can result in two very different destinations for two different path-goers. For example, if you take a seasoned professional trader and you put them head to head against a rookie trader in the same market, at the same time, it wouldn't be shocking that the grizzled veteran would out perform the newcomer. However, what can be surprising is if you were able to wind back the clock on this example and take the same two hypothetical people, and force the pro to only enter trades at the same time and in the same direction as the losing new comer, the outcome would still most likely be the same: The professional would profit , or at the very least be set back substantially less from the less than brash trading decisions of the of the newcomer. How can this be? How can two traders taking the same positions result in widely different financial results? The answer is surprisingly simple: Practical money management.
