    The Gate of the Year

And I said to the man who
stood at the gate of the year,
    Give me a light,
that I may tread safely into the unknown,
    and he replied,
    Go out into the darkness
    and put your hand
    into the hand of God.
That shall be to you better than light,
and safer than a known way.

    -Minnie Louise Haskins

( this is an excerpt, the poem itself is much longer and was
read by King George VI in his 1939 Christmas broadcast)

    In Search of God

I went to the Holy Land, to Mecca & to Rome.
I visited many churches, temples & mosques.
    I climbed the tallest mountain.
I looked in the books of an old
    Eastern religion to no avail.
I opened my heart & that is where he was.
