PENTAGON WANTS TUNNELS FOR ROBOT TRAINING The Pentagon's Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) says it is looking for a private underground tunnel system in which it can train autonomous drones and robots. The agency, which works on deep tech with potential military applications, said in a federal contract request posted on August 20 that is was seeking "information on university-owned or commercially-managed underground urban tunnels" that it could use to test technology designed to "rapidly map, navigate and search unknown complex subterranean environments to locate objects of interest." DARPA may already have a particular underground labyrinth in mind for the work since it gave interested tunnel owners just 10 days to respond.
Like it or not, the wars of the future will be fought by the machines. Anyway who doesn't have war robots will be at a massive disadvantage, so I suspect this will end the era of AK47 "equality". Drones are but a taste of what is to come. That said, I am not sure robots is the point of the tunnels? Lol
Those models like Atlas, made by Boston Dynamics, owned by Google, cause fear for general public , while unarmed. Now it's easy to imagine, public reaction, if they were recorded in full combat action, heavily armed & armored, blowing up human mannequins. It's also not good strategically, because enemy intelligence, would be spying for week points and flaws in tech, - capabilities & limitations etc. Especially if those are advanced models.
Anyone see Fallen Angel, high speed winged drones on mass, with a C4 explosive charge can swarm and take out everything in there path, looks 100% feasible in real life to.
