Paris Disaccord President Macron used a speech at the centenary of the Armistice that ended the First World War to slam nationalism—in front of self-avowed nationalist President Donald Trump. Macron: "Nationalism is a betrayal of patriotism. By saying, ‘Our interests first, who cares about the others,' we erase what a nation holds dearest, what gives it life, what gives it grace and what is essential: its moral values." Fortune
Without doubt, Macron took a shot at Trump but not just Trump. His approval rating is in the toilet, I mean really in the toilet, in the 20's and his own electorate is more in sync with Trump than Macron. And Angela just announced that she will not seek re-election after seeing her party beaten by nationalists in Bavaria elections. Ditto for Austria and Italy and the nationalists are already in power in Hungary and Poland, and of course, Brexit is a nationalist movement too. The EU is either breaking up or being held together with duct tape and bondo. All the polls show that France will be represented in Brussels/EU parliament by representatives of Marie LePen's party, not Macron's. So Macron is trying to diminish Trump to- among other things- fend off his influence on the nationalists in Europe who were already rising up before Trump was elected. This is of course contrary to the lefty mainstream media that attempts to portray everthing as groovy in multicultural in Europe and now they have to put up with the Great American Barbarian showing up to offend their delicate sensibilities. Macron is about to go into the toilet for failing to defend French interests. And as in the US, telling everyone who does not want to see their country just dissolved into a big shake and bake bag that they are Nazis, is not working out well for him, or for a pantload of the other EU countries. Nor is blaming their problems on Trump. Macron has problems and they are homegrown, and they are European grown.
