Okay, I'm pretty well convinced the powers that be won't be happy until we're stampeding over each other for a gallon of milk, so let's discuss preparation. Now first off I'm not talking zombie apocalypse prep because if the water and natty gas supplies go, it's pretty much end of days shit so lock and load. Lets just stick to the might be a little tough to get goods and supplies for awhile. Food: Going to need dense, nutrient loaded stuff that's easy to make and lasts forever. Oatmeal comes to mind. In a pinch you can live on it and all you need is water, not even hot water. In a real pinch you don't even need water. Crackers, Peanut Butter are also good choices. Rice. Ramen Noodles will last forever and have little nutrient value, but they're cheap. Canned goods will last but in large quantities can be costly. Share your ideas. Basic supplies: This is just some stuff that's easily overlooked. Everyone should know the basic medial supplies, and such. Let me tell you from a guy who knows. Toilet paper should be at the top of your list. Spend a week in the bush, run out of shit paper and you're in a world of hurt with ass rash. A can opener. Finger nail clippers. Couple tooth brushes and toothpaste. Some basic hand tools. Discuss.
Or just what you need for a week should you choose not to go out and binge Netflix. Water will still be in the tap and it is very good here. We just bought extra rice, four (lots), butter & eggs, tinned pork and beans... The wife felt three jars of blueberry jam were essential. Big leg of ham still in the freezer since Christmas. Several packs of vegge burgers, they last for ages & tuna. She also bought lentils but I'm not going to die eating lentils.
Well, depending on how bad things get, this is a start... scale it to barter for what you don't have. 50lbs of sugar from Sams, $20 of cornmeal and $5 worth of yeast,
This isn't going to happen over the Covid 19. It will take a much nastier virus (if we're talking about viruses) or something else (EMP) to do something like that. It could disrupt food supply for a few weeks - you have to think about the manufacturing and trucking part of the supply chain. But I can't see it going beyond that.
Water is more important. Get a Lifestraw. The average grocery store only has 3 days worth of inventory. Stock up on: Canned meat (tuna, chicken) Beans, rice Canned soup
You think water becomes a problem? You don't think public water service would work in a pandemic situation?
You can only last a few days without water. What if the power goes off because there aren't enough workers?
