Oklahoma Senate passes bill protecting drivers who hit protesters blocking roadways

A bill meant to protect drivers who hit protesters during the course of fleeing a riot passed the Oklahoma Senate on Wednesday.

House Bill 1674, which passed through the Senate by a vote of 38-10, would increase penalties for blocking roadways while also providing immunity to drivers who kill or injure motorists while fleeing the scene of a riot in fear for their lives, according to the Associated Press.

    I totally agree with this.

I'm sorry, but if I am in my car and you rioting fuckers swarm around me and my car, and I feel I am in danger of losing my life, I am going to use deadly force to prevent such. In this case, it's the car, not a gun.

A car moves a lot slower than a bullet. So get the fuck out of the way, and you'll be fine.

  4. So if there is a group of people blocking the road/intersection and I decide to speed up and ram through and kill 3 people I can claim that I feared for my life and I should not be prosecuted for murder.

    Makes sense...

There is a big difference between a crowd blocking the road, and a crowd swarming your car and trying to break your windows in order to grab a hold of you.

  8. The law does not make any distinction from what I read...just says if you fear for your life you have immunity if you run them over....

Seems cops use the "fear for my life" standard pretty loosely in shooting others, do you think people in a car won't do the same thing when they see their path blocked and they are running late?

Question all these freedom loving conservatives should be asking themselves is why do they need more laws for what is already protected (self defense)?

Indeed. I read into it differently. As in if you are in imminent danger. A bunch of people blocking the road in front of you is not imminent danger, and you would not fear for your life. A bunch of people swarming your car and attacking it/you is.

The wording of the bill needs some refinement I reckon'.
