I'm more than butt hurt, I lost $100 bet! Not only did I have Harris winning, but I had her winning by a margin so significant that America would find redemption, at home and abroad. Boy, was I wrong! Not just, but soul searching wrong. My media, my social circle, my bubble, all failed to predict the outcome of the election. What I expected Harris to do to Trump is what he did to her. Unequivocal shellacking. Now what? Clearly my understanding of the country is way off. The US today is far more populist than I expected. Post election data graphs show Trump support from the white vote, the 45+ age vote, the male vote. I just defined the majority of the population and that majority significantly chose Trump over Harris. Many years ago in college I suggested that America had the real potential of becoming a right wing dictatorship because ethnic minorities were growing in numbers far faster than white Europeans. Back then non whites were 25% of the US population; today it's almost 42%. At the time I was a supporter of Serbia in Kosovo, arguing that the Albanian demographic majority did not justify their taking control of Serbian land. When the US threw its support behind Kosovo independence I likened Albanians to Latinos and wondered how white Americans would react to being gentrified. Trump is the answer. There's much more to Trump's success than his overt racism to reassure ageing white folks that my media never addressed other than in disparaging terms. Perhaps I should have watched Fox to feel the tempo that swept through the country. Instead, Trump's first election was for us the trigger to get the hell out of Dodge and move to Singapore. Boy are we glad we did. The next 4 years promise to be a hell of a ride, but I will be disconnecting from the socio political news of America. I gave a f*k much too long and , at 61, my priorities lie elsewhere. My kid's going to college in Australia, my wife's getting a fantastic new JAPAC job with a leading tech company sure to take her to a lucrative retirement in 15 years, I'll be commuting between Singapore and Mallorca twice a year, my US passport has become meaningless.
Ignore MSM and use X for your source of news. Seriously. Anyone following X knew this was going to be a landslide without cheating. Dems won’t like this simply because they don’t like Musk or Trump. Follow Musk’s account and you’ll see what’s going on or keep being lied to by MSM. For anyone that disagrees, why was MSM so wrong about the election?
Sorry but even CNN was talking about failures of kamala in the campaign and numbers were basically even for weeks.....her loss was out there right after the debate bump went away so not a surprise to most...
Really? It's a working class thing, instead of lofty ideals people need their share of the country's productivity. Trump doesn't know how to trap and brainwash whole populations.
You weren't the only one on this board who thought that It would seem many of the lefties on this board were pinning hopes on a repeat of 2022. When the polls were wrong and the red wave failed to materialise. And ignore all evidence that contradicted that view, but amplify all the (fake) evidence that supported a big Kamala win. Some of the pollsters seem to be very corrupt/biased. The Democrats had billions to spunk on the election. Paying $500K or whatever they cost for 10 or even 100 favourable fake/(badly sampled) polls in the run up to the election was small change for them.
I actually don't think this is about Democrat versus Republican. After all, a number of moderate Republicans and some hawks openly called on or voted for Harris who is herself a moderate Democrat often criticized by her Left throughout her career. I think this is more of a moderate versus extremist schism, where those who speak the loudest and the most controversial get brownie points for "speaking their truth". Prior to the social media era people with extremist view were censored as unacceptable by both Dems and Republicans. White supremacists could hold rallies in their white linen or do the nazi salute in public and most of the population shrugged their shoulders and moved on with their lives. But today, anyone can say anything and reach millions pretending to represent the views of many. What social media is doing is pushing the boundaries of speech to near endless nonsense in a world full of feeble minds easily manipulated to buy into one ideology or another or to believe fiction as fact. This will invariably lead to increased violence within nations and towards other nations.
That's so patronizing. In reality people have natural temperaments that put them somewhere on the political spectrum on a normal distribution with most people in the centre and very few at the extremes. Most people just want to vote for a party that's competent and not too far from where they stand politically on the issues that are important to them. And they put much more weight on how their lives are doing than what's posted on social media.
She's a moderate? You're completely out of touch with reality... therefore the entire reason for this thread. Wake up. Don't shoot the messenger. You wanted to have "the talk". Get your head out of your ass.
I had a similar experience during the 2012 election, I don't mind saying. Had to do some recalibration, but once I did, I was happier in life. Removed people that were toxic to me, considered paths I could have gone down differently. Retrenched in some areas, but realized one simple truth: No one man or woman is going to "destroy the country". That's just social media / media driving you to be anxious and keep clicking. They said Clinton would destroy the country (I remember Rush's broadcasts). Then the left said Bush would be the end of us. Then the right said Obama was the one who would end the US. Then Trump. Then Biden. Now Trump again. But the truth is that the country just keeps on chugging. Peace!
