Trafigura's head of oil trading called for a carbon levy on shipping fuel to make zero and low carbon fuels more economically viable. Its in the FT but they sometimes paywall content. There's a non-paywalled copy on their blog. Trafigura also have a full proposal for the IMO to introduce a decarbonisation programme. Are they just trying to get ahead of eventual regulation that's coming anyway or does this have teeth? If so are there any low carbon fuel firms that might benefit from this?
They want to attract more participation in the OTC Carbon Credits trading markets. Which as it’s currently configured is manipulated and is mostly a wealth transfer mechanism and to date hasn’t really lowered Carbon emissions an appreciable amount as far as I can tell. But academic proponents and consultants hired by partisan think tanks have white papered it to death.
%% Then let him pay it; we dont want any + oil sure does not need more regs. TSLA may like that/LOL. State of CA /brownouts may like that/ but that is another reason to be against that levy
