Nearly every major city is a sanctuary city. No mayor will go for the S.S. like dragnet Trump has come up with. It is mean spirited, would drop the GDP sharply, and renders police forces as to gridlocked to deal with real police work.

wait a minute. how would cities turning over criminals to ice cause gdp to drop sharply... other than the gdp hit local govts would cause by spending less capturing, trying and jailing, repeat offenders.

Well listen to this mayor respond - this is typical of what many mayors have said.
The police do turn over those were a court order is involved. No police want this since it would make their job impossible and a lot more dangerous. ICE is the dept that deals with illegal immigration - delegating it to other agencies is just not realistic according to mayors of large cities. What they want is a better pathway for citizenship. In L.A. for example 60% of small business's are started by 'illegal aliens" - better to help them out than deport them.

  5. I do not support cutting funds to these cities. That hurts the wrong people. Arrests need to be made. All judges, mayors, police chiefs and legislators who are willfully providing safe harbor to criminals need to be taken into custody, held without bail as they are a direct threat to national security, tried and when convicted given the appropriate sentence.

that is a trick answer... very deceptive.

The feds are are talking about turning over criminals already in the system and finishing up a jail term... we are not about policing the streets.

Garcetti threw up a red herring. No one is asking L.A. cops to go into the community and arrest illegal immigrants on the street or informants or victims.

this is not about enforcing immigration laws with people on the street.
its about turning over criminals in the system.

the majority of CA are in favor of turning over illegal alient criminals. only nut jobs leftists would not want to deport criminals.

( by they way... I have to admit I based my argument on the articles I have read.) if ICE is asking for community police to do immigration work on people not breaking the law... that would be a different story. )

The police are already following the long standing protocols for notifying ICE. They have been arresting people on the streets - so far it is random. When Trump tried to ban people from entering from some countries they were arresting people at the airports - people that had no warrants. Federal judges have spoken - lets see what the higher court have to say.

  8. Well that's exactly the democrats' plan. Bring in a vast invasion of poor foreigners, then get them voting.

We thought we had just elected a president who ran on the opposite policy.

    1. with respect to your link..to the New York Times...
that is a different subject. I would bet the supreme ct will not agree with the times. But to me that does not really matter. By the way I don't think its shameful for a country to restrict immigration from certain areas of the world. I think it is actually irrational to not do so when there is a threat from that area of the world.

    2. but that is not the issue we are talking about here.
we are talking about whether cities turn over all their illegal immigrants in the criminal justice systems to the FEDs upon request. So I wonder if you are actually intending to be misleading when you say the police are following long standing protocols.

let us know if you think these counties were complying...

Some private citizen needs to file a lawsuit against some public official or agency claiming they are knowingly allowing a criminal to live next door to them. There seems to be a lot of parallels with legalized pot. Some states refuse to enforce federal drug laws.
