NFL not expected to implement new national anthem policy this season

The NFL is not expected to implement a new policy on the national anthem this season, league sources told ESPN, no matter how many meetings and conversations occur regarding the topic.

The new policy is going to be no policy -- at least for this season, according to sources.

Too many people have stances too strong to figure out a compromise, although talks will continue.

Players began sitting or kneeling during the anthem in 2016 to protest racial inequality, police brutality and other issues. The protests have become a divisive topic of debate, and the NFL and players' union still haven't said whether players will be punished this season if they choose to kneel or demonstrate during the anthem.

The NFL passed a new anthem policy in May, but those rules were put on hold to allow the league and union to further discuss the issue

This is tragic on the part of the NFL. It means their viewership will continue to drop. And they con only blame themselves.

  4. Blacks make up 13% of the population but represent nearly 70% of the NFL. That's racist. Just think of all the slow white guys who are being denied a pro career.:p Ban all racist quotas for all jobs. The best qualified get the job, just like the NFL.

Or they could submit to Trump and his racist supporters and lose viewers that way.If they are going to lose viewers its better to lose the racist ones.

Yeah since your definition of racist implies 70% of the U.S. population. This includes all the cops, the military, the former military, and nearly every hard-working segment of the population.

The NFL needs to restore their integrity and have a firm policy that all players & staff need to stand for the anthem or stay in the locker room. Those who fail to follow the policy need to be fined and not be allowed to play a minimum of 4 games for the first offense, and permanently terminated for the second offense.

What a bunch of flaky SJWs you guys are, worse than the kids on campuses that you love to whine about. It's a game, stop getting triggered by irrelevant parts especially when a draft dodging loud mouthed coward is your leader.

  9. The league is showing very weak leadership on this. That isn't much of a surprise since they have a real empty suit as commissioner and he has filled the league office with a lot of leftwing pols and activists.

The thing that grates a lot of fans who might have been at least minimally sympathetic to the kneeling players is that the league has been absolutely dictatorial previously in restricting player expression. They would not let them wear cleats that honored the 9/11 victims for example. They wouldn't let Tim Tebow have Bible verses on his eye black tape. Even "Tebowing" was controversial, with many of the same leftwing sportswriters objecting to it.

Suddenly when it is the dems pet cause in an election year though, it is a Constitutional right and only racists and Nazis would object. I guarantee that if Kap's protest had involved rocking his arms like a cradle to protest the black genocide of abortion, he would have been excoriated by the same media and the league would have shut it down immediately.

Better yet; ditch the anthem and make it like it used to be and pretty much every sport is. After all I don't want politics in my entertainment (to quote right wingers).
