Took them awhile to make this decision. Interesting. NFL Announces Decision On Black National Anthem At Super Bowl (msn.com) We're less than six hours away from kickoff at Super Bowl 58 in Las Vegas, where the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers will play for the Lombardi Trophy. There will be multiple national anthem performances on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium. Reba McEntire, the "Queen of Country," will be performing the "Star Spangled Banner." But that's not the only pregame performance. Andra Day will perform "Lift Every Voice and Sing," which is known as the Black national anthem. The song has been around since 1900, though it's only been performed at the Super Bowl in recent years. The song was written by James Weldon Johnson. Johnson was a leader within the NAACP. "At the turn of the 20th century, Johnson's lyrics eloquently captured the solemn yet hopeful appeal for the liberty of Black Americans," the NAACP says. "Set against the religious invocation of God and the promise of freedom, the song was later adopted by NAACP and prominently used as a rallying cry during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s." The song will be performed before the start of Super Bowl 58 in Las Vegas on Sunday evening.
If they insist playing a "black" national anthem, then they should also play the true "white" national anthem... God save the King? All bullshit. How about a human anthem for once? Like an Enya ballad or something.
