In this tread, I will give analysis on trading futures using Economic news. As noted I am a PA trader, so many trades are scalping trades. I have posted some trades in other forums before I made them, but this is hard due to time I have to activate the trade and when how fast it will hit it's target or stop. The benefit of using news analysis, is to allow for hopefully longer term trades using either 1 or more contracts.
https://www.cnbc.com/2020/03/08/oil...opec-deal-failure-sparks-price-war-fears.html "Oil prices plunged 30% in early trading Sunday night after OPEC’s failure to strike a deal with its allies regarding production cuts caused Saudi Arabia to slash its prices as it reportedly gets set to ramp up production, leading to fears of an all-out price war."
So as noted the above news is bearish for oil. If this comes out during market hours we could trade this news to the downside. However, since the news came out before the market open, we see price has spiked down and anyone who is long with a stop gets stopped out as market open. Not only that their stop would not work, and they would be sitting on a major loss.
I decided to trade this at exactly 3:00 pm PST on Sunday. I was looking for a short. Chart is not working and you can't see price bars due to massive volume. However, the DOM was working, and also the trade chart buttons were working. So I was able to place a trade with no set stop or target. I did just one contract and was able to kill the trade manually while it was still green. I will post the chart next.
Assuming chart is now actually reflecting real prices since I am done trading and will not test it, we can see that price has now rebounded. This can happen when price has fallen more than worst case. The reason this may not be worst case, is Russia and Saudi Arabia could agree to cease fire on their trade war.
There are also some news services that can help traders who work 8 hours per day with live news. My goal with this thread and possibly a website would be to provide actionable alerts on my analysis of the news that could possibly lead to profitable trade setups.
If you are trading Sunday, please feel free to post how it's going here. Did this news event change anything for you?
Do you place your trades thru the DOM window, thru the chart or a trade execution window in your broker trade execution platform ? Also, do you use the market depth info in your DOM to help with your trade entries and exits ? I'm just a little confuse because you stated you use "New Events" but now it looks like the news events controls the direction of your trades and you then use the DOM to time your trade entries. What's your source of real time "news events" or is it strictly schedule economic events ? Thanks in advance. wrbtrader
