Alas Hardtalk was canceled/ replaced tonight by a travel show and on BBC website Neil Woodford interview is only available in UK...
I managed to catch it here on the Asian service. I pay about $6 a month for a VPN which if I set up with a UK server allows me to access BBC iPlayer, which is otherwise restricted to only the UK. Key points he made is his success is because he takes a long term view, typically 15 years. He doesn't jump in with both feet with a new investment, starts small and builds as he sees performance. He keeps a defined max risk with each investment and sells if it fails to perform. Invests globally but does so by industry, not region. Doesn't see the Euro able to continue in its present form as lumping Portugal, Greece and Germany together is not sustainable given the wide economic disparity. He is surprised to see it last so long and attributes it to the willingness of the Eurocrats to go to extraordinary lengths to make the European project a success. On misc stuff, he agreed that the fund industry overcharges, taking fees for active management and returning passive yields. And he's always stuck to his strength, which is being able to identify good investments. Never deviates and dabbles in other approaches.
