    Not a good precedent.

What prevents liberals in the future (if they ever return to power) from declaring a Global Warming national emergency and bypassing congress? What prevents them from declaring a National Diversity Emergency and throwing the borders open? It cuts both ways.

Better to force congress to fund the wall. Just leave the Government closed until the Dems relent and carefully explain to the American people that the Democrats are preventing IRS tax refunds from being issued. That is the kind of heat needed.

Wait, what? Democrats have passed a bill to fund the IRS in the House. The Republicans in the senate are refusing to vote on it and trump is threatening to veto it.

Are you sure democrats are going to feel the heat, or is it the other way around?

That bill lacks Wall funding and will not even be considered by the Senate. They are not even going to conduct test votes until there is an agreement between the democrats and the President. The resulting limitations on IRS operations will delay tax refunds until the IRS is funded along with a border wall.

Once Americans realize their refund is not coming its on.

But democrats are trying to fund the IRS and republicans are refusing to fund the IRS.

I don’t think you guys have thought this one through.

The democrats have passed a non-starter bill that omits will funding as part of Homeland Security. No wall is going to mean no tax refunds. I don't have a crystal ball that tells me that the people will blame Democrats but the President ran on the Wall and has been in office for nearly 2 years so its time for it to happen.

I don't like to see the President end-run Congress by declaring a National Emergency but that may be more palatable for the GOP if it is perceived that they will be blamed for a long term shutdown.

A National Emergency declaration is going to face some court challenges and could take some time. If I was President Trump I would just veto anything that came to my desk that lacked wall funding and sit tight with the shutdown for a few months. By June the Wall will have either been funded or crews will be sifting through the scorched remains of the capitol building.

That bill was going to be voted on until Ann Coulter said no.

I’m pretty sure the fbi would be interested in what you meant in that last sentence.

This shutdown won’t make it anywhere near June. The senate has the votes to override a veto and will do so unless trump relents before this messes with tax season.

Mitch McConnell is a turtle, but he is not a stupid turtle. Trump is on his last legs with this shut down, hence the Hail Mary emergency declaration and the Oval Office speech.

    He’s a loser throwing a tantrum.
