Hi, I have put together a system of 12 monitors with 3 video cards each handling 4 monitors. One video Card is in Top 16X slot as shown in attachment. Second Video Card is in Middle 8X slot Third Video Card is in bottome 16X slot Monitors are arranged in two rows, 6 in each row as shown in attachment. My question is how to connect each monitor in those slots. Meaning which slot should I plug in the monitor # 1 & so on. The reason I am asking is that in Windows -7 it didnât matter but in Windows -8 some of the applications wouldnât open. When I open these application they show their buttons on task bar but they stay minimized & would not open ( Maximize ) & thus not available to work with. Thanks
> My question is how to connect each monitor in those slots. What? You do not know how to put a cable between a monitor and a graphics card? SERIOUSLY? Lets get to it - 12 monitors, 3 cards, is a 3x4 layout. OBVIOUSLY you want to have no chaos, so, assuing one line of montiros (3 lines, 4 screens) make every card handle one line. In one direction. To keep order in the cabling. Seriously, this is a non-question that boils down to "are you capable to put a cable between a monitor and a computer" as the rest is choice. > The reason I am asking is that in Windows -7 it didnât matter but in > Windows -8 some of the applications wouldnât open. Ok, so the real question is "I have programs that do not work in windows 8, help"? SHould not be a differnce between 2 and 12 monitors for the application.
You didn't state type of cards, if mismatched or if Win8 compatible - First step confirm compatibility If compatible Win8, pull the card from 8x slot to eliminate potential conflict, and confirm programs work or not. If programs work, it isn't Win8, but the 8x slot If it worked in win7, reload win7 - if it ain't broke don't fix it It shouldn't matter which slot you plug monitors in as Net pointed out. You should be able to identify monitors and move them around as necessary or re-arrange once identified Agree with net, this isn't a which cable / how do I plug in question, but are my components Win8 compatible. I can't imagine a 4head card working in an 8x slot, I always had conflicts when I mixed PCI and PCI express
Is this on a different computer/mobo than when you used W7 or did you just change OS on the same computer?
Yeah, Imagination. PCI-E Standard is clear. Port is port, channels are irrelevant - the mobo talks to the CARD; not the Slots. Any Slot has to negotiate channels. It is totally ok to have wired up less than them. Yes, bandwidth will be lower, but then trading is not exatly intensive on the Cards, compared to Games - tons less data to Shuffle around. Nothing in the Hardware can be bad. THe BIOS may have a Problem (seen stupid things there).
Which is why a trader running multiple monitors shouldn't look to buy a computer with an el-cheapo mobo.... the BIOS can be, let's say, "streamlined" and not allow what you expect.
Seems WinstonTJ mentioned that Windows had a limit of 10 monitors normally, but that could be increased with a tweak? Did you tweak your W7 to run >10 monitors?
