Republicans with close links to the White House increasingly believe that Special Counsel Robert Mueller is “going for the kill” in his investigation into links between President Donald Trump and Russia, according to a report from Axios Tuesday. Members of the GOP are said to have come to that stark conclusion based on Muller’s hiring of lawyers experienced in dealing with money laundering crimes and the mafia, as well as the intensity of his pursuit of both witnesses and evidence.

Steve Bannon Says Trump Firing Comey May Be Biggest Mistake In Modern Politics

“If James Comey had not been fired, we would not have a special counsel.”

    By Nick Visser

Steve Bannon, the former chief strategist at the White House, described President Donald Trump’s firing of former FBI Director James Comey as a historic error.

Charlie Rose asked Bannon, appearing on “60 Minutes” in his first televised interview since departing the Trump administration on Aug. 18, if rumors were true that he had described Comey’s firing as the “biggest mistake in political history.”

“That probably would be too bombastic, even for me,” Bannon said, “but maybe modern political history.”

He added that Comey’s departure directly spawned the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller and his investigation into possible collaboration between the Trump administration and Russia to interfere in the 2016 election.

“I don’t think there’s any doubt that if James Comey had not been fired, we would not have a special counsel,” Bannon said. “We would not have the Mueller investigation and the breadth that clearly Mr. Mueller is going for.”

  6. So this is what it was all about !!!! That's why the CIA put up its own candidate during the elections. So I guess all the politicians individually must be kind of scarred of Trump.
So not astonishing that the only one standing up are former FBI or CIA guys.
American politics is becoming as good as an hollywood movie.

The big show is going to be once Trump is cleared in everything, the libel lawsuits he's going to file will be in the billions.

  8. In the meantime Trump sends ''private messages of appreciation'' to Mueller.

President Trump has sent private messages to Russia special counsel Robert Mueller

WASHINGTON – President Trump has publicly called the widening federal investigation into Russia's election meddling a "witch hunt." But through his lawyer, Trump has sent private messages of "appreciation" to special counsel Robert Mueller.

"He appreciates what Bob Mueller is doing,'' Trump's chief counsel John Dowd told USA TODAY in an interview Tuesday. "He asked me to share that with him and that's what I've done.''

Trump's legal team has been in contact with Mueller's office, and Dowd says he has passed along the president's messages expressing “appreciation and greetings’’ to the special counsel.
