Hello, For index futures trading. what are the advantages and disadvantages of the morning session vs. the afternoon session for trading? Thanks
Advantage: if you avoid both sessions, you won't lose money 100% of the time. Disadvantage: if you hit either sessions, you will lose money 90% of the time. ha.. sorry to be a smart @ss about it. Here is what I think - Morning session - more predictable news/numbers timings. You know exactly when those numbers are coming out and when/if you want to avoid those time slots. It is also more volatile (in my opinion) because europe is still in session and asia is not exactly dead of night yet. Afternoon session - less news from overseas, but more unpredictable news domestically - brother ben may let out a fart regarding economic conditions and market moves b/c of it. It is also the session that the pros tend to push their weight around to make sure their positions are not squeezed. You may be able to tell some positioning by the pros in the morning and follow their move in the afternoon to protect their positions. Honestly, just personal opinion/experience, I prefer the afternoon session.
