"Case in point is the $47 billion Emergency Rental Assistance Program. It was created by Congress with the noble aim of helping low-income households hit by the pandemic pay missed rent and utility bills. But it has turned into a devil of a mess."

"By the end of June, barely $3 billion had been distributed to some 630,000 households. The Census Bureau estimates that over seven million households are behind in their rent, with 3.6 million saying they were “somewhat” or “very” likely to soon face eviction. "

Yeah assuming that $47 billion were really distributed successfully to all the renters, how much of that would really be used to pay the rent in arrears and not in Robinhood accounts playing the meme stocks? Instead of giving the money to the renters and then for the renters to give to the landlords, why don't they pay the grants directly to the landlords to compensate for the arrears? So that way, the landlords get paid the rent that was due and the renters won't get evicted naturally and everybody wins. For the same amount of paperwork, documentation, administrative work that is required to process and distribute the money for the Emergency Rental Assistance Program to the renters, it would've been much more effective and efficient to deliver the funds directly to the landlords instead. After all it's the landlords who need to be made whole, not the renters. With the eviction ban, the renters are basically squatting for free. Don't know why nobody can see that.

"In crisis situations, the most vulnerable people who should receive priority help are too often the last in line. We failed homeowners in 2008. Let’s not fail tenants now."

No you are failing the landlords, not the renters. So you are failing the homeowners, again.

  2. 100% truth

The government could fuck up a ham sandwich. Yet people still want them to control our healthcare????

The real losers are the mom and pop landlords who invested their money and time in rental units for their future. They still owe their mortgage payments but there’s been no rental money coming in for almost a year and a half!!

Once again the responsible get fucked and the freeloaders get more handouts.

Yep 10 million jobs available and renters need more assistance. This is just ridiculous at this point. It has gotten to the point where people are now conditioned not to pay rent not to pay student loans not to get a job, this isn't going in the right direction and it's all because of these unlimited free money handouts. There are millions not paying rent and living for free all while they sit back and know that the free assistance will continue. There is no need for this assistance, there are millions and millions millions of jobs available, but these people now want to just live on assistance from the government, and each and every time the free money isngoing to end they just restart the free money handouts all over and say don't worry here's more billions....

And in this case, the free money is not even going to the right people. That's the most ridiculous part. It's supposed to go to the landlords who are the ones who really need the help, not the freeloading squatters. They are already getting enough $$ through the stimmie checks. This is looking more and more like protection rackets that the government is paying to try to buy peace all at the expense of us taxpayers.

Yup only two kinds of people win in this world nowadays, terrorists and freeloaders because we have a leader who's too weak to deal with both. Seriously Donald Trump is not even as old as Biden and yet he had been bombarded with unfounded suspicions of Alzheimer's disease and had been pressed again and again and again for daily physical health checks. Biden is almost 80, way older than Trump and yet nobody says a word about his possibility of having Alzheimer's and nobody says anything about his health checks?

Landlords are literally going door-to-door just to tell the renters to apply for rental assistance so the landlords can get paid directly. It turns out that some of the rental assistance payments are being made directly to landlords and the utility companies and not to the renters like this program from New York: https://otda.ny.gov/programs/emergency-rental-assistance/

But the money is only slowly flowing to the landlords why? Because the renters obviously don't give a s***. There is an eviction ban until October this year; they are squatting for free. Why would they bother to apply? They are not the ones getting the money. I originally erroneously thought they would get the money and put it in stocks but it turns out they won't see the money. Well this explains even further that they don't even bother to know about the program and even apply.

So this begs the question even further WHY are they relying on the renters to apply for the assistance to have the money to go to the landlords when the renters are able to live there rent-free because of the wonderful eviction ban? This is obviously a conflict of interest that's playing to the renters and the government's favour but screwing the landlords in the meantime. Why can't they have the landlords apply directly for relief and then have the payments applied directly to the landlords?

And according to the article, not only the landlords are stuck with mortgage payments and property taxes but they are also on the hook to make investments for the maintenance and repair of the properties that those freeloaders are squatting in there. They have to fork over money to fix security gates that are broken, hot water heaters that went down... Well you know what? If I am those landlords, I wouldn't spend a penny to fix those things, not when I am seeing no rent or government assistance flowing in unless I am authorized to print money myself. Those security gates? Well if you are too poor to pay rent, you've got nothing important or worthwhile for a security gate to protect. Get mugged or robbed for all I care. LOL You are already squatting there for free, beggars cannot be choosers. If I choose not to fix the heaters because I've got no money because you ain't paying me rent, you are gonna just have to find other ways to stay warm in the winter freeze. Tough! Otherwise you better apply to those assistance.

This is not by accident. It is by design. The Economist had it on its cover a couple of years ago: "The Biggest Mistake of XX Century Was Home Ownership". The Blackrock got the message, you did not. Not the first time. 84% of humans are unable to separate Perception from Reality anyway...
