...a clear case for USA to "liberate" Niger and also "bring democracy"... ROTFL! Latest developments in Niger: https://finance.yahoo.com/m/8b1ccdac-ba9e-3774-ac55-f078e7616316/niger-coup-leaders-end.html https://finance.yahoo.com/m/a49f483a-2024-3b4a-8b01-71f97ecc47c0/niger-truckers-feel-early.html
Africans don't like the West. The West had killed/sold millions of African slaves. The West had forcefully colonized Africa. The West had drawn/redrawn / anyhow drew the boundaries of the African countries. Niger wouldn't want to be 'liberated' (or colonized) by the West again. They might prefer the Russians to liberate them. So proxy war?
The interesting side of this coup isn't the coup itself (Niger has only known coup since its independence) it's how western nations will respond to it.
ECOWAS has already threatened a number of actions. Both US and French militaries have forces in the country. The question is, what is the general population response to the coup. Russia is paying people to protest against the west but pay double and they will protest Russia. It would take no time to bring the recognized president back but it would be better if Africa resolved African problems.
Aligning yourself with modern day Sauron doesn't on balance look very good, regardless of whether you're a historical victim of colonization or not.
