Bear vs Bull... Both have put a lot of money on their conviction, proof that data analysis can result in diametrically opposed conclusions. Just as fascinating is their willingness to time their prediction to the end of the year, perhaps as late as Q1 2022. Either direction will impact all of us traders so, who do you believe? Burry or Wood?
Don't bet against the masses, the social media, the millennials and gen Z, the group think party kool-aid, the phones and apps, the stimulus. To short, bet against, meme stocks, cryptocurrencies, social movements, tech stocks...would be insane in this modern day. Burry's resistance is nowhere near strong enough as the opposing Support. You would need serious down forces...such as the Fed increasing rates higher and higher and stopping spending of money, and Governments banning crypto, and a Coronavirus 3.0 wave variant. But besides, Q1 2022....who cares that far out, traders don't invest that out far. I certainly don't. I live day to day.
My money is on neither. Both are taking extreme views of things and are not focusing on facts. The only profitable trades that you end up winning big are the ones that are based on facts, verifiable plain facts that are right in front of people's eyes that most of the people just don't bother to look. The last time Burry made money was when he actually looked at the mortgage repayment schedules of millions of Americans and arrived at the conclusion of the imminent collapse of the mortgage industry. Did he actually look at Cathie Wood's investment and actually analyzed the actual presence of the disruptive innovations or at least the possibility of it which is what Wood banks on for her investment in her portfolio to arrive at his conclusion and his investment decision? Did Cathie Woods actually analyze the actual presence of the disruptive innovations or at least the possibility of it for her investment? If not, then neither would succeed because their investments are not backed by facts.
Well, we're going to find out that track in a month from now. We shall see. Will be Powell and the FOMC's shining moment. Taper or not? Expect the VIX to pop around that time.
Taper??? Hahahahahahaha... Hilarious. Just the thought of that word on wallstreet sent stocks spiraling downward. No way no how do they taper, threat of Delta variant, breakthrough will keep them so far away from tapering. Wallstreet cannot handle the removal of free money. It's way too addicted to the free handouts that just an inkling of removal of any amount will cause a catastrophic chain of events within wallstreet and economy.
The last 12 years are littered with the corpses of bankrupted shorts. Even if Burry eventually proves right, he'll make much more money by waiting until an actual bear catalyst is present - and until then, by finding ways to profit at least a bit from this mega-bull trend.
