What time of day are stocks most likely to be halted for news of merger? prior to opening? after market close? middle of day? near market close?
    Why?

  3. I'm inclined to answer almost never. With regards to timing of announcement: pre-market followed by after market. Almost never during market hours.

  4. This matches with my anecdotal experience. I have a system that holds 100+ stocks overnight and most of the big surprises have come in the morning (since 2014)
