(CNN) Donald Trump's latest controversy is unleashing condemnation from Democrats, Republicans -- and journalists.

With Trump's call for a temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States, several of the nation's most esteemed journalists and influential news outlets have set aside traditional notions of balance and given themselves license to label the Republican front-runner a liar, a demagogue, a racist and worse.

Tom Brokaw, the veteran NBC News anchor, has called Trump's proposal "dangerous," and likened it to the Holocaust and the Japanese internment. On its front page, The New York Times has said Trump's idea is "more typically associated with hate groups." Dan Balz, of The Washington Post, has called Trump's rhetoric "demagogic," while BuzzFeed editor-in-chief Ben Smith has informed staff that it is acceptable to refer to Trump on social media as a "mendacious racist," because, he said, those are facts.

Several others have said Trump's proposal poses a national security threat. "This is not small ball, actually. This matters," Richard Engel, the NBC News chief foreign correspondent, said Monday. "It is...a black spot on our collective foreign policy and our conscience. And it also just feeds into the ISIS narrative."

The willingness to use such language and draw such analogies represents a watershed moment in the media's coverage of the 2016 presidential campaign, several journalists and political observers told CNN. For the first time in six months, news organizations are abandoning concerns about impartiality and evenhandedness and stating what they believe are objective truths about the Republican's most popular presidential candidate.

  3. Shocking. They were so objective and unbiased before.

They have zero problems with Hillary, and her 30+ year record of corruption, obstruction of justice, influence peddling, attacking and destroying women who complained about being sexually assaulted by her husband, presiding over the Benghazi fiasco, then lying to the public and to the families of the victims she left to die by blaming it on an obscure video, and running the most disastrous foreign policy in memory.

All their blustering doesn't answer the average voter's question as to just what is so terrible about Trump's idea? And his question about why Obama would want to bring in vast numbers of muslims from conflict-ridden countries with no means of vetting them?

  4. no kidding, Who but the media, the republicans and the democrats disagree with Trump?

the one that cracks me up his radical statement, "we want immigrants, but they must come here legally" They attacked on that for at least a week until he said something else everybody agrees with

he really does expose the establishment for who they are, media, republicans and democrats

    Ok I've got this one...

He, and all other true leftists, think that if we just show how nice we can be the muslims will realize the error of their ways and leave us alone because we are obviously so enlightened and accepting of diversity. They actually think we can coexist with Islam.

    lol

Ron Paul was right about Al Queda..... Al Queda was more a rebellion against Western occupation. They wanted us to leave.

ISIS is basically establish a caliphate by force. The two are different. ISIS actually declared war on Al Queda. I say this to the defense of Ron Paul. But yes, he was a bit naive.

Some of the primary GOP voters totally agree with the Trump. But no matter what statements he makes...it won't change people's mind. He is always is news for making such controversial statements.

Trump is another Hitler-says the people who tell us a guy screaming allah akbar as he's shooting people is not an islamic terrorist, that Bruce Jenner is a woman, and that the world is warming based on the temperature record that they have systematically gone back and changed with higher temperature readings.

These are people who think they are the science based reality community.

The establishment republicans are being mocked by a considerable percentage of people because they exhibit such a high level of chickenshtedness that they can't even bring themselves to call out the massive in your face frauds being perpetrated on us every day by the left.

Democrats, Republicans and the media have been comfortable for a long, long time with the status quo. Anyone who tries to upset that gets the wrath of all of them. At this point, everything they've thrown at Trump has made him stronger, and they're panicking at it.
