<B>Op-ed for Op-ed: McCain to strike back in 'Pravda'</B> September 13th, 2013 05:30 PM ET 6 hours ago CNN's Ashley Killough (CNN) - Responding to Russian President Vladimir Putin's controversial opinion piece in the New York Times, Sen. John McCain jokingly told CNN's Jake Tapper he'd like to write a commentary for Pravda, the historic Russian newspaper connected to the Communist Party. Well, now it looks like McCain may get his wish. According to Foreign Policy's blog The Cable, the editors of Pravda have tentatively agreed to publish an op-ed by the Arizona Republican. The opinion piece will most likely reflect McCain's strong negative views toward Putin. "We have to remember who Putin is. He's a KGB colonel apparatchik, who has never abandoned the Russian ambitions for an empire, and influence in the world," McCain said Thursday on Tapper's show, "The Lead." Dmitry Sudakov, the English editor of Pravda, told The Cable that if McCain wants to write an op-ed, he is "welcome." "Mr. McCain has been an active anti-Russian politician for many years already," Sudakov continued. "We have been critical of his stance on Russia and international politics in our materials, but we would be only pleased to publish a story penned by such a prominent politician as John McCain." A spokesman for McCain told The Cable that McCain "would be glad to write something for Pravda, so we'll be reaching out to Dmitry with a submission." http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.co...ed-mccain-to-strike-back-in-pravda/?hpt=hp_t1
So instead of missile strikes, now we have editorial strikes! Times are changing....The next will be angry tweets, which I guess is a good thing...
McCain is an elected official of some of the people of the US. What's in the least bit wrong with him expressing himself?
There are many reasons why this is a terrible idea, beginning with the fact that conducting foreign relations is entrusted by the Constitution to the Executive branch. Foreign readers may not appreciate that McCain is a loose cannon who represents neither the country or even his own party. McCain is certainly entitled to his opinion and to express it. No doubt he lacks the judgment or intelligence to see that expressing it in Pravda is inappropriate at best. He has made it clear endlessly that he cannot let go of the Cold War. His views here are dismissed by even his own party as outmoded if not downright crazy, but Russians are likely to be alarmed by them. How exactly does that help us? Of course, with McCain, it is all about McCain and stroking his enormous ego, rather than what is good for the country or his party.
Its Obama who should defending American values. Unfortunately, I think he agrees with the Putin editorial. Reagan would have a field day proving Putin wrong.
Dear Pravda. I am proud American and have been since birth. I remember fondly from my high school years the time we kicked your great hockey teams butt at Lake Placid. Oddly, it marked a great cultural turning point for our country. A time we turned away from leftists and defeatist democrats. We went on to 20 years or more of prosperity. We also note it was good for you and the world when you tore down the wall in 1987 and turned away from centralized planning. The juxtapositions going on right now are interesting. Pravda and Putin at times championing capitalism. The New York Times and our President frequently championing marxism. But one thing every thinking american can agree upon is that John McCain represents no one but himself. He was shot down. (that does not make him a hero right? ) He was probably sold us out to his captors. He has been a sellout his whole political career. He is the worst kind of crony... a military crony / the son of an Admiral. If you let him speak... I demand you let me speak. signed... jem (I will be happy to publish under my real name and I promise to write clearly)
