To me, Masterworks seems like a brilliant idea. It seems far less of a scam than these ETFs that just buy small baskets of stock that anyone else could buy and then charge a 1% expense ratio. Masterworks is actually offering an uncorrelated bet. Art galleries holding too much power is feature and not a bug. I would love for free market forces to smash the power galleries have. There are things I have been waiting years to see but they are just not on display. I wouldn't invest with them but I can easily see them growing into something larger and larger. The biggest scam going really is all these youtube content creators. Make a goofy face for the cover along with an an outlandish claim, babble a bunch of uninteresting nonsense or just plain wrong words, profit from the viewers who you just made less informed.
