MLK would not be happy if he could see what has happened since he died. "If the American Black family was a spotted owl or a gray wolf, it would be on the endangered species list. Instead of refocusing on cultural roots of faith, family and education that sustained the Black family during the most difficult times in our country’s history, we now blame racial disparities on white privilege and systemic racism". Martin Luther King's dream is alive but liberal policies are destroying Black communities | Fox News
"I was five years old when Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated. Then, nearly 80 percent of Black children were born into two-parent families but sadly, the Black community transformed to 80 percent fatherless homes in my lifetime". "We know the damaging affects fatherless homes to children after seeing the steep decline of two-parents in the Black community for five decades: 85 percent of children with behavioral disorders; 90 percent of homeless and runaways; young boys and girls suffer higher rates of physical and sexual abuse, and list continues".
Policies that really work need to be based on truth and compassion. We handle the issue of black underprivilege by elevating the right side of the distribution curve and creating an illusion of progress, while the left side is neglected and left to sink or swim.
When you look at wage gaps, you need to look at experience, what kind of college degree, and some other variables. If 2 people apply for the same job, one may have more experience or what may seem as being the same amount of experence may be misleading because one applicants experience may be much more focused in a certain area. One applicant may present himself much more professionally. One applicant may be willing to work longer hours and be more dedicated. Blacks tend to seek out college majors that are less challenging and simply dont pay as much. Thats a personal decision and has nothing to do with racism. The onion always needs to be peeled.
I posted that link to show that we're not making as much progress as some people (like Bugenhagen) would have us think, and that there's a need to get back to basic metrics in order to improve the relevant public policy.
MLK's Vietnam speech was a classic. His appeal was more than just what he had to say about civil rights.
Have a reflective MLK day. I know he's be speaking out on the murder wave instead of the cowardly silence of many of todays so-called leaders.
