margin interest on short positions?

    suppose you have a 120k account, with 100k in marginable stocks and 20k in cash.
    then short 50k of SPY, and don't spend that 50k you got from shorting.

    Do you have to pay margin interest on the 50k, 30k, or no margin interest?

    No and if you have a decent broker you receive interest on 50k.
