Why did they shoot at the guy on the couch being woken up... is waking up a crime now when police barge in your home?
Looks like he grabbed his legally obtained pistol from the coffee table as the invaders broke in and startled him from his slumber.
That video doesn't show it (there's a different cam where you can see it with more clarity), but it looks like he was sleeping with the gun in his hand. Still does not justify the actions the cops took however. All this "shoot now, ask questions later" stuff has to stop. The cops are wearing body armor, too. Guess they do not believe it will work in stopping them from getting badly hurt.
I dont know what they expect to happen when they come in with guns drawn like that in the middle of the night. They must be reall yon edge not knowing if someone in the dark might come at them and so they fire immediately. It is not a fair position to put the cops in at all which goes to how fucktarded the trianing and leadership is to conduct their job in this manner. Poor guy wakes up to noise and intruders and first instinct is to grab something. Imagine if it was just a bat or stick he keeps nearby.. he still would have been shot.
And to this point specifically, you are correct. Guy is not even named in the warrant. What the fuck, did the cops have the wrong house address? What was that BS? This was a failure through-and-through on the Minn PD. Fucking ridiculous. All cops want to do these days is go "pop pop pop" with their 9 mm cap guns. No marksmanship, no thought process...They are just playing cops v. indians like the old west. Dumb fucks.
It's not the door, it is the anti-break-in device behind it. It's a rod set in the ground at a 45 degree angle wedged against a plate against the back of the door.
