New York Times: “Federal payments to farmers are projected to hit a record $46 billion this year as the White House funnels money to Mr. Trump’s rural base in the South and Midwest ahead of Election Day.” “The gush of funds has accelerated in recent weeks as the president looks to help his core supporters who have been hit hard by the double whammy of his combative trade practices and the coronavirus pandemic.”
Haven't the farmers always received help from the Federal Government? IF so, then what is the problem.
Thats the difference between Republicans and democrats. We think the people that create the food should be taken care of and you think the people that eat the food should be. Without the farmers, you have nothing to eat.
Personally I think we should stop subsidizing farmers. Why should we? The problem isn't due to a need for subsidy. It's created because the government regularly tells farmers to stop farming, or farm only soybeans, or whatever. Let the free market determine what farmers grow. For once @exGOPer is right. We aren't "taking care of the people who feed us". The top 10% of farms take the lion's share of the subsidy. We aren't "protecting small farmers" we are literally giving welfare to the largest farms in the country. Get your food from a local farm. Don't have one? Buy some land and start one. We shouldn't be allowing them to privatize gains and socialize losses.
Why should taxpayers bail out farmers suffering from decision made by Trump to put huge tariffs up and then lie and say China is paying for them. It is not my fault Trump lied to the farmers and then paid them off to make them happy. Didn't Trump fail the farmers? Seems ironic GOP finds socialism as useful to win votes as Dems do but at least Dems admit it and GOP takes a hypocritical approach.
Questions to extreme liberal idiots: If farmers did not plant their crops, where would you get your food and how much will it cost you? Anti-American idiots who have no clue. When a good portion of US food is now imported from China no less, what are the chances you will eat contaminated food like the ground plastic mixed in with rice by the Chinese? Or pesticide laden, farm harvested seafood? Of course, you ass clowns love the Chinese so much, you would have no problems with them poisoning you and your family?
This may be a good time to note that the top 10% of the farms that take most of the money are corporate farms. The addresses the checks are mailed to for these corporations entities are mainly located in blue states despite the actual land being located in red states. Most agricultural welfare in the U.S. somehow lands up in blue states once the checks are sent from the government -- or so it appears. Something is fundamentally wrong with how government agriculture money is allocated and distributed. As a previous poster noted - 'The top 10% of farms take the lion's share of the subsidy. We aren't "protecting small farmers" we are literally giving welfare to the largest farms in the country."
