Ford cancels Mexico plant, expands U.S. factory and adds 700 jobs https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2017/01/03/ford-motor-co-donald-trump-mexico-us/96106334/ Ford Motor announced Tuesday that it would cancel plans for a $1.6 billion Mexico plant and launch a Michigan expansion in a move that may be viewed as a capitulation to Donald Trump. Ford CEO Mark Fields said the company would spend $700 million and add 700 jobs to "transform and expand" its Flat Rock, Mich. manufacturing plant to make autonomous and electric vehicles. "Make no mistake about it — Ford is a global automaker but our home is right here in the United States," Fields said at a press conference. (More at above url)
In September, Ford announced it was cutting it's North American salaried work force by a third and has been quite vocal that Trump's trade policies are deeply damaging their bottom line. If Ford employs less people now then when Trump got elected, how can you possibly spin 700 jobs as a MAGA item we should all know about ?
As outlined in the article this change of cancelling the $1.6 billion Mexico plant and launching a Michigan expansion is viewed as a significant victory for Donald Trump. The reality is that the issues in the automotive industry run much deeper than which country the autos are made in. The available capacity to produce is now millions of autos above the demand. Consumers have shifted to SUVs from cars. Many of the plants are tooled to create cars and many of those are being shut down with associated jobs losses. I expect the reduction of work forces in the automotive industry to continue as the politics of where you host the remaining assembly jobs becomes increasingly political. BTW -- the MAGA label in the headline was merely to poke fun at characters on both sides of the ET political spectrum who are constantly using it in their headlines.

Shares in the largest US carmaker closed nearly 5 per cent higher after it announced the moves, which were intended to cut $6bn in costs as GM braces for a downturn in its home market and the impact of the global trade war. Four of the factories to be shuttered next year — two assembly plants and two power train plants — are in the US, including in politically pivotal states like Ohio and Michigan, where Mr Trump has credited his protectionist trade policies with bolstering American manufacturing. A fifth plant in Canada will also be closed
The thread derailed at gwb's OP. He posted an article two years old. Whoops! Things change! Trade wars! Tariffs! MAGAGAGAGA!
Finally someone noted this. And it was not someone from the usual set of posters which demonstrates that none of them are paying attention or reading the links. The entire intent of this post was to poke fun at all the clowns on both sides of the political spectrum who are including MAGA in the subject of all their threads in the hope they will stop with their inanity.
