“The impact of the coronavirus-induced economic shutdown tore through the U.S. labor market in April at historic levels, slashing 20.5 million workers from nonfarm payrolls and sending the unemployment rate skyrocketing to 14.7%,” CNBC reports.

“Both numbers easily smashed post-World War II era records and help reflect the profound damage done through efforts used to combat the virus.”

New York Times: “If anything, the report understates the damage. The government’s definition of unemployment typically requires people to be actively looking for work. And the unemployment rate doesn’t reflect the millions still working who have had their hours slashed or their pay cut.”

Most of these jobs were lost due to the government shutting down businesses due to COVID-19.

Trump is the leading advocate for opening back up and getting people back to work.

Democrats are leading advocates for not opening back up and keeping states locked down.

There is a better case for saying this is a "Democratic Economy".

The reality is that it is stupid to try to proclaim that this job loss is associated with either party - it is due to COVID-19.

Trump is the lead advocate of COVID being "no big deal", a "hoax", "15 cases at most", "just like the flu", and "magically going away"

After seeing the final months of The Bush and Trump presidencies a person would have to really hate America to vote for another republican president.

This is a totally different situation. It is not comparable to these other things.

The more appropriate comparison are employment levels in cities that were fully locked down during the 1918 flu.
