Madoffs: Bad at Suicide

Ruth and Bernie:

"So Ruth and Bernard Madoff took a bunch of pills, some of them Ambien and possibly some Klonopin, Ruth recalls. She did not drink alcohol with them for fear of vomiting. "I took what we had, he took more," says Ruth. It was Christmas Eve, she says, "That added to the whole depression." But the pills didn't work. "We took pills and woke up the next day....It was very impulsive and I am glad we woke up," she says."

Mark:

"My stepfather ... found Mark's body hanging from the steel beam that ran through the living room. He had fashioned a noose out of our dog Grouper's leash. A snapped cord from the vacuum cleaner was on a table nearby; apparently it had taken two tries. Nick was sleeping just a few steps away."

His previous try, from his wife's new book:

"Picard suggested that Mark, “of all the people that should have known… should have known.” Mark was furious and 19 days later, he tried to kill himself. ... Mark left just before 9 a.m., and then went missing. She called 911, and later, when the apartment was surrounded by police, he returned. “I took 30 Ambiens and did not expect to wake up. What the fuck does a guy have to do to kill himself?” he said. He had checked into a nearby hotel and swallowed the pills, leaving a note on the night table: “Bernie: Now you know how you have destroyed the lives of your sons by your life of deceit. Fuck you.” He was taken to the psychiatric emergency unit, and discharged after a week."

P.S.: I know I misspelled suicide in the title, but I would rather be bad at spelling than suicide...

 

I read a story about a guy, real loser, checked into a sleazy motel with a shotgun intending to kill himself... the crime scene investigation showed that he apparently blew his jaw off with a first attempt... made it to the bathroom mirror, saw what a mess he was, went back to the bed and had to shoot himself again!!

I have a friend that talks about suicide.. I told him to not leave a horrendous mess at least, that he should go far into the wilderness, maybe just stop eating and try to enjoy the woods during his last few weeks...
