Looking for your thoughts on the current IBRX short attack

Discussion in 'Stocks' started by teachamantofish, Mar 10, 2023.

  1. IBRX is undergoing a radical price decline and posters have offered various theories. Most of those fall in the black helicopter theory bucket, so I'm looking for some good guesses from experience traders.

    Context:

    • IBRX has an incredible number of trials with positive results as well as a PFUDA on May 23 for a potential block buster drug. Statistics say it has a 95+ chance of approval. Results are 2x better than Keytruda with no adverse events (unlike Keytruda).
    • P Soon (founder) owns 80% of the company and is not selling.
    • Recent offerings (including warrants) in Dec and Feb were at 5+ dollars, so those folks probably are not selling for a huge loss.
    • Retail has around 10% of the float.
So over the last months IBRX has seen an inexplicable and radical price decline. 1 or more folks are shorting and I assume retail is capitulating. I'm not sure how a short ladder attack could make money, so it doesn't seem likely this is multiple players trading back and forth (and if someone was buying, the short volume % would not go up right?). Short % hasn't change much, but short volume has increased dramatically as the price has declined.

Perhaps the action is as simple as 1+ entities shorting and will simply cover at some point to cash in. I'm doubting it's possible to cover and then buy the stock at a lower price pre PFUDA run up.

How can short % be down but short volume be up?

I'm not understanding the action and am looking for opinions from those more experienced with short trading.

If there was the remotest chance of an approval you don't think it would be reflected by insider trading and others hopping onto the long side? This looks like a dumpster fire and exactly what "statistics" point to 95% chance of approval?

With stocks one can always be completely wrong but you sound more like a fraudster who hypes stocks on social media than an insider whose ego dictates that he must be always right, even on a chat board.

  3. Thanks for the derogatory and waste of time response.

The 95% is a real number reflecting the number of Fast Tracked and Orphan Designation drugs that FDA approves if the drug makes it to PFUDA. So that's a fact.

As mentioned above, the founder is an insider and already owns 80%. Retail float is extremely low.

Not hyping anything. Looking for realistic scenarios so I can understand how the traders responsible for this action think they are going to make money. Understanding the other side of the trade is a key part of investing, no?

Well you should then be in this stock hands over fists. Wish you good luck.

Edit: my point, in case it escaped you, was that there are much lower hanging fruit to pick. You are looking to gain insight into an approval process that generally only insiders have access to. Else why do you think not all hedge funds are in this trade? The recent stock price behavior does not reflect that. Stocks like this generally turn out to be coin tosses. But hey, you can be right betting on heads.

  5. You're a waste of time. Go somewhere where you are willing to actually engage the question and quit cluttering up the forum.

Spoken by the one with 10 posts who joined a week ago and now shills a penny stock. Sure.

  7. When you look at biotechs..it good to look deep into their past. ImmunityBio used to be NK..NantKwest. Its a Patrick Soon-Shiong pump and dump. It has made insiders several fortunes (the first big fortune was when all Patrick's people shorted it the day after it went public and never stopped until $1). Patrick is a "one hit wonder" and turned his attention to NBA ownership..LA elite social engagements ect..hes out there with other failures like Steve Ballmer who have harvested billions off the sheep.

Patrick Soon-Shiong's companies live off of cheap, zero interest financing...and now that game is over. However, when the fed finally stops hiking and the hot money starts chasing oversold pumps...this one can make you rich. It wont go below $1 as Patrick will prop it. And when it pumps..it will go toward $15 very very fast. But as for any real break through in research or drug success...its a big NO.
