Hi I'm looking for a 17 inch Laptop for Jigsaw (DOM trading) and Multicharts.net. No fancy indicators except for 4-5 DOMs that I'll be focused on with a fast data feed. I intend to learn "cut and reverse" drills etc scalping on the DOMs, so it has to be quick. I've been told I need an i7 with at least 16G of ram, and I intend to run an extra monitor. Has to be a matte screen, not 4k, doesn't overheat, and not noisy. Does anyone have any suggestions which laptop I should be looking at?
Unlikely any ET'er has "compared laptops" in such a way to be able to offer an opinion about "this one is good, these are not". You're likely just going to have to make a guess yourself. Suggest you look into "workstation" class machines, not less expensive "consumer" rigs.
MSI Apache Pro GE 72 I7 processor 6700HQ 2.6 Ghz Geforce GTX 960M DOUBLE coolers that can be put on 200% capacity Normally for gambling but I took him for superb cooling and powerful processor.
Couldn't agree with this more. Most will say either the one they own is the best, or the one they own is crap, and leave it at that. So I would say this one is the best.. since I have an older version. www.amazon.com/Republic-Skylake-i7-6700HQ-Notebook-Computer/dp/B018YDOLEK/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1473824244&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=asus%2BROG Runs pretty quiet, especially with dual cooling. They come in very many different configurations, but 32gb would be more than enough, and of course make sure one of the drives is an SSD. 16GB would also be plenty I think, so look at all the options since this one I linked is just the first random one I saw in this style.
I do understand that people may start comparing, but I know that many of you guys have years of experience trading, and the hardware requirements involved. $2k'ish is a reasonable budget which makes the P70 xeon too expensive. I will keep looking at the gaming and workstation laptops. It sounds like the 6700HQ 2.6 Ghz is ok, and I won't have to look at the faster 6700k 4 Ghz which gives me more options. Thank you.
This one is actually really good. I have similar configuration except I removed Harddrive for another SSD. Never use HD! Also IPS screen is extremely important
Get a standard Thinkpad P70 with an i7 processor instead then...they're available as low as around $1500 on eBay http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_sop=15&_nkw=thinkpad p70&_dcat=177&Memory=16GB%20or%20more&rt=nc&_trksid=p2045573.m1684 The Thinkpad series of laptops is The Original workstation laptop. No point in getting a gaming machine...if you're not a gamer
Be sure to check Dell Outlet. Same warranty as new. Also, check ebay "refurbishers" for slightly used machines. Last laptop I bought was a Dell workstation... about $3000 new, but I got it for $475... had been in use only 16 months and I got the balance of the 3-year warranty.
