Daniel Fried was one of the State Departments highest ranking diplomats. There is a great insight revealed in this interview, that should give us all pause when we consider the current State of foreign affairs.
If this interests you, you will definitely enjoy the book "The unwinding" by George Packer, just read it a couple weeks ago, and while i was skeptical at first because the Author was from the New Yorker, so i thought it would just be a liberal hit piece, i found it to be a very fair, and very interesting look at all of the events that made america from the perspective of the people who were involved over the last 40 years. They have heavy weights in there who everyone would know like Peter Thiel, or Andrew Breitbart, or Steve Jobs, but then they also have the stories of community organisers whose communities got decimated by offshoring, and even stories like Jay-Z's life story, its a very interesting read. Picture it like a condensed version of Reminiscience of a stock operator where there is a 40 year timeline in the book that stops at major world events from chapter to chapter, but it is presented from many different perspectives through that timeline. The whole book basically runs on a timeline of the last 40 years, and these peoples lives over those 40 years, it jumps around from person to person, and gives their account of the events that unfolded over the last 40 years, but instead of telling each story individually, it tells the stories as the time passes so your eagerly awaiting each new decade, even though you know how it ends up for some of them. I couldnt put it down once i started it, cause i wanted to keep getting the rest of the story of some of the people i was less familiar with, i finished it in less than a week, even though i only read actual books for about a half hour to an hour before bed, because it held my interest so well, its a very fascinating read, and very well done, nice to see the history of America mapped out over 40 years like that from very different perspectives.
INSKEEP: Is there a reluctance to back foreign policy that doesn't support the American values you've been describing? really? Hey INSKEEP, you should watch FOX sometime, they broadcast all the presidents speeches and interviews.
