Lockdown workouts

  1. How had this lockdown impacted your workout routine? Has pretty much upended mine. I've tried a couple different things at home, and while I have limited equipment I do have some and body weight exercises are of course available. It's more motivation than anything which seems odd considering the convenience of not having to leave the house. Just having trouble with consistency. I miss the gym.

  2. Same here. The gym closed 6 weeks ago, and I expect it to stay closed for at least 2 more weeks.
However, I did not want to improvise and end up with exercises that don't really add value (e.g. not enough weight available, or not taxing enough for the muscle group). So I stopped altogether and call it a "deload".
Once the gym reopens I consider myself a beginner, start from the bottom and build up again. It will be nice to see the progress.

I've heard people say the same thing as you but I honestly don't get it. I don't understand how something that's more convenient is actually less easy to stick with? Unless.... your underlying motivation comes from being around other people working out because THEY motivate you instead of you having to motivate yourself. Or maybe there's some serious hotties in your gym and that's what you really liked more than anything. :D

I'm the exact opposite. I work out way more often than I used to because my home gym is a few rooms away. I don't need to "get dressed for the gym", drive, or anything like that. Just walk in there and get serious for 20 - 30 minutes and get out.

  4. There are a few hotties and I am somewhat motivated by the general environment. I think for me it's an opportunity to get out of the house and do something. Years ago while working and living a much busier life getting to the gym was a hassle. Being mostly retired now with a considerably more relaxed lifestyle I'm looking for things to fill the time. The gym time does that.

  5. I haven't abandoned it altogether but I'm not doing much these days which I would call a decent workout and the time between them is now running multiple days. I too will consider myself a novice which is probably smart. Going too hard too fast is a good way to get injured

  6. Same here. Going to the gym helps to build a regular pattern, a regular weekly schedule, in an otherwise not very busy week. But my main motivation is to get healthy, and stay healthy.

Just finding this somewhere in distant location (or not) + push ups, and one can work out the hell from his body in 30 mins with explosive training 2x - 3x per week.

Used to do every day, but it's - to often ; need to give some time for yourself, to heal/rest properly.

    That man mentions few tips.
And it's amazing (despite steroids etc) that he was working out only 2x per week on his upper body and once a week on his legs, and still went 6 times Mr Olympia.

  10. I prefer to work out at the gym, because I sometimes seem to get in an extra rep when there are women around. It's also a reason to get out of the house. But apart from that, no compromise. I have a good pull-up bar, parallel dipping bars and dumbbells. And a floor. I do the exact same workout with the added benefit of not having to wait to use the equipment, which is fairly moot since I take long breaks anyway.
