Hot wheels Abbott: "We'll begin by scrapping archaic laws that say we cannot have child brides, married women can consent, and the age of consent is above some number. This is how we get rid of rape in Texas!"
I don’t know if SB8 was ever given it’s own thread but it’s looking pretty done with how the arguments went. TX state AG admitted SB8, if allowed to stand, would allow other states to enact laws that would allow private law suits for gun ownership. Es no bueno. TX AG rebutted that Congress was the appropriate modifier a d got his his head immediately smashed into the table that the reason for rights is that you don’t need permission from congress. This is looking 6-3, maybe even 7-2. The court seemed more interested in the appropriate way to unravel this law than anything else. They seem unhappy with just neutering it at the clerk level but there doesn’t seem to be a prevailing alternative. This is important because the court could grant relief pretty quickly but write up on it seems to be the problem.
This is the exact course of action I asked a blue state should follow so said law could be struck down and by precedent, the abortion law with it
