I am seeking out experience and opinions. I'm taking a first class this weekend. I've started some overhead presses and suitcase carries on my own. They seem like a good way to have a home workout in limited space.
They are! Much success on your class! I googled the late “john meadows kettlebells exercises” because he was a great teacher.
I don't know. Personally, I never understood the attraction to kettlebells. Dumbbells are better balanced and adjustable. But I guess what's old is new again.
Incline Kettle rows were new to me, the stretch and range are great. The only problem is most gyms don’t go above the 50s.
Okay, but the dumbbells he used to compare to the kettlebells were a lot heavier (bigger). But I get the point. However, if a lower back is an issue, I'd just as soon do slow inverted rows to maximum range. The thing about kettlebells I don't like is that they seem to be used mostly for swinging movements. At least that is what I had seen in the gym before I started working out at home. I don't like any swinging exercise because it relies on momentum. Momentum makes an exercise easier. But the point of resistance training for maximum gain is to make the exercise harder. So I guess I just don't like them on principle. That and because I had injured my shoulders with the improper use of momentum in the past (not with kettlebells!), both in and out of the gym. So I guess it's personal.
I have been practicing doing more girevoy style training along with tactical snatches. Try these...They are more taxing than they look: https://youtube.com/shorts/cZ39V7Idprk?si=sTj4LFiHOCYRrVqQ Then build it up into a complex: https://youtube.com/shorts/u4OgCAX9-28?si=pqtK16N15xR28fsq
