"crop brokers" ? What version of English uses "crop brokers" ?

In Chicago it has always been "grain traders" or "grain brokers".

You do realize that not every crop is a grain, right?

    Well, since you ask, yes.

In Chicago things that grow are referred to as "ags". The grains have always been the leading ag futures.

Still doesn't answer the question: What version of English uses "crop brokers" ?

Well, ags include anything that is or was alive - plants, cattle, hogs etc). I think Bloomberg journalists were looking for the word "feeds" or something like that.

Next, we'll be arguing the hyphenation of anal retentive.
